Among Somali singers ...who is the most popular one..and who do u like?

Recommended Posts

Watch Sahro Dawo in old days of Durdur. She is singing at SOS Children's Hospital, a favourite spot singers used to like inay ku qaadaan meeshaas in the old days of nabadda.

Her Soomaalinized Eritrean husband is at the back; waa kan garaacaayo electric keyboard, which killed him maskiinka Eebba ha u naxariistee. His brother also kan kataarada garaacaayo waaye, with stripe shirt.

Too many that sing but what about the songwriters? They deserve so much praise walle sometimes some of the lyrics I hear is so deep!

Either way the singers that I like depends on how I'm feeling.

If I'm feeling depressed then it has to be Koshin with him qaraami.....

Aroos then it has to be Saado Cali,Xasan Aden,Lafoole or Juba...

Optimistic then Deeqa Axmed and Maryan Mursal....

Youthful then it has to be Zeynab Cige, islaantass can moooove lol.....

Romantic and thinking of marriage then all of the above and a dude called Cabdinasir Macalin(Sings the copy of Xural ceyn&Bada cas),Maxamed Salebaan(Tubeec)....

Oh God too many to name.

Few nights ago watching al jazeeria’s Xasaad Alyoom night news Rapport, it was

Gore, blood, death and destruction particularly the Iraqi news, when I filpped the romote control to the Somali TV - the Universal.

There was the great fanaan Axmed Naaji with his caman or cuud, in the program as Guest Star, in the middle of a interview. And singing a national song called inaan beer falana ………

inaan beer falana an ku baahi baxnee

Beer falo : in aan beer falana an ku baahi baxnee

the night after - they also bring up his brother Ali Naaji with his piano and rock style music in Somali banadiri songs – cool stuff and great artistists both

For me, it has to be Magol (Ilahi aa uu naxaristee) iyo Sahra (I think that's her name) she was in the ruwayad 'Habloy gorma kuursan dontiin'. Do not know the full lyrics but my favourite song of hers had something along the lines 'baahsono...xiidla heey igu bahiin'.

Seynab Cige a legend I say. Qabrigii Jacaylka her sensational album says so much about this woman and her wicked tunes! Check out track 7. I insist. :D
