The question remains how does the Jaarso see themselves in terms of identity [Somali or Oromo] and politics considering Mustafa's emphasis on reviving Somali identity and inclusive politics in the region?

 

Our dear Galbeedi contends the Jaarso along some other Somali clans joined Oromo out of political expediency. Will genuine change [in due time] in the Somali State win back the Jaarso?

"One of the most important factors in the changes is to have friendly government with our neighbors" That is word for word.

This has both good and bad meaning. And when you realize what the changes are, the steps show only and only one result.

The message is "we had a bad guy so we got rid of him. The reality is the method you use to get rid of your bad guy is totally depending on outsiders and the price you pay is your autonomy. Outsiders now can go deep in your region and remove ordinary officials.

What did he actually say? Somali identity is important.

I do not think Jaarso see themselves as Somalis, even those with half Somali parents. They mostly speak Oromo and more comfortable being Oromo.  It is beneficial for them to be Oromo than Somalis. They are a very active community, share culture with Somalis.  But they do not have a problem working with Somalis, they can also help Somalis to work the neighboring oromo.

As for jaarso it depends on their mood they are bilingual in wajaale and diredawa 2 . I think they fall under the noole clan of the gallas.  Abtigiis started good he is harmonizing  the communities kala  yaacay.

Xaaji, are you ok? Delusions iga dheh. The white man was in Africa to colonize and exploit, and Somaliland was one of the unfortunate territories. Societies in Africa and other continents resisted colonial rule one way or another, but your family fought for the colonialists, and refused to be liberated. 

Let me remind you Sheekh Bashiir, the lone man from Burco who tried to resist colonial rule in Burco and your dhabaqoodhi bootlickers killed him on behalf of the white man?  You killed the only man who tried to resist colonial rule from and the white man dragged his naked body through the streets of Burco with young women and children watching as a deterrent.

Well, they can be both and that is the issue. They have a choice. They can be leaders of Oromo, instead of a discriminated Somali tribe.

I don't have deep information about internal Kililka politics, but are the Jaarso looked down upon by other tribes? What do you mean when you say discrimination?

Aren't they part of the noble Dir clan?

Sheikh Bashir was much later after the dervishes were defeated. Sheikh Bashir like the dervishes were xagjir extemist they believed they cant be any treaties between infidels and Muslims.  We from the qadriyaa order of imamshaafici have a different understanding on this matter  the prophet  muhammed sallalahucalahy wasalaaam made peace with both Jews and Christians in medina. So it's possible to have treaties with infidels like the  hidjra to Abyssinia you can make alliances with  some gaalo. The mad mullah did the same after the ilig treaty he signed a protectorate treaty with the Italians. So it's all  politics....

Is isaq dir? ducaale will say yes but xaaji will say, they are the duriyada. Same with Jaarso, in addition, they speak the Oromo language too.

Political allegiance is fluid but ethnic identity remains. The Jaarso are Somalis and part of d^ir.  If they were not Somalis we would not talk about them being somalis or oromos. A lot of clans are bi-lingual. Some clans in Somalia that are digîl speak af-barwaani near Marka.  Does that mean that they are nor Somalis.`? Nonsense! From what I have heard they simply saw a lot of opression coming from Cabdi Iley and chose to give their political allegiance non-cabdi iley elements. 

 

Mustafa made a very good thing by reviving Somali identity through mutual understanding and peace. Way to go ! Its only by soomalinimo and unity that you can beat back the Oromo/Amxaaro/Tigree (at the end of the day, they are all the same)
