Recommended Posts

Very sad news.

Nothing is known yet from the police, but the media is reporting that he died from gun shot and the hand gun colt has been found in the car.

Egyptians?

There is enough Ethiopians and Eritreans that can do it for them. He was the last one of the Meles type around GERD.

Killing the best and the brightest is always the work of those trying to make a larger impact. Sometimes is it due to accident or random crime, but whenever you hear a scientist is killed, question more.

What was his ethnicity? Amhara?

The area where he is from, by birth is mostly Agew, but maybe he is Amhara. He is from Amhara Kilil.

In deed there is always some business or secret interests around death of such people.

OO, what’s the lastest news from the dam? Is it still on progress to meet its deadline to be commissioned as planned or are their set backs? I know the new government is cash strapped so will that prevent them from finishing the dam?

Yes indeed if you want to weaken a nation eliminate its brightest minds. Few years ago Israel carried out a series of assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists to slow down their nuclear program.

When a bomb exploded in pro Abiy Ahmed rally, I pointed the finger to the new order trying to purge the Tplf. Now, this new killing is done to undermine Abiy Ahmed and make him an Egyptian and gulf stooge.

Last week, Mr. Abiy said that the Gerd Dam is more political than economic, and he added that it will take ten more years to finish. Then the Engineer is dead. Certainly the TPLF is  hard drive .

If Abiy survives 2018, he will might rule a decade.

The issue is not financial. The Italian company can guarantee from Italian banks and get paid from the Electricity sale. That was already done. The rest is Ethiopian companies which are being paid and some are public corporations which have bonds..

The issue is what did PM Abiy and Al Sissi agreed?

There is not a single article on Egyptian press like Al Ahram afetr that visit, before that was every day

There is no update of progress on Ethiopian news, before that there was weekly program from TV and Radio just update on progress.

It was supposed to start generating 700MW this year, and not a mention of it after PM Abiy talk with Egypt and UAE.

Its off the news completely not only headlines in Ethiopia, until death of the Engineer.

You have your own reasons and objectives for saying that, which you have never hidden, but all these countries are not moving by their own internal dynamics. Very little internal dynamics and a lot of outside interference from super powers, middle powers and even small time powers.

PM Abiy has to have all the stars aligned as they are now to be successful. Imagine if Ghelleh and UAE worked out some accommodation, then the love boat would move to Djibouti in a heart bit. Ghelleh will not forget PM Abiy treachery and weakness.

Example PM Abiy should have visited Djibouti again after all this love boat hupla with UAE. I can assure you a Tigray would have done that even when under pressure of America or Arabs. They always did with Sudan and Djibouti.

Long after even America is gone, Djibouti and Ethiopia will be there. PM Abiy knows that even 10% of Ethiopian business can not be moved to Eritrea. There is no infrastructure for it. I can guess you do not know this reality on the ground.

Even when Ethiopia had Assab and Massawa for 40 years, there was never ever more trade done through Eritrea than Djibouti.

Look OO,

Abiy doesn't want any confrontation with the neighbors in his transition. If Sisi bombs the Dam, he will not face tough sanctions. Sisi, With the coalition of Egypt, UAE, Israel and others , Abiy should fly under the radar at this early juncture.

There are more than 20 million northern communities who have historic connections with Eritrea. Eritrea has huge mining and tourism industry that could be exploited by Ethiopia. For Djibouti, no matter how many trade revenue  the government earns, the people remains one of the poorest in the region. Even the employees of the port are foreigners.

Djibouti gained influence and business because the Somali region and state is unstable. They haven't even seen any real competition yet. Peace in the region and trade among the people is the greatest threat for your in law dictator Gheele.

OO,  everyone knows that killing the engineer doesn't stop the project. It is the message it sends. thousands have demonstrated in Addis to mourn the man , and this kind of incidents waken Abiy.

By the way, are you guys laying  law these days or are you up to something?. I have seen some reports abouts weapons and cash being captured in and around Addis. Who is moving these arms to major cities?

As far as can be observed, some of the leadership of Tigray looks like even physically moved to their home base. Don't expect them to do anything against America, UAE, Saudi. Israel does not lose anything regardless and Tigray are the once who have the best relation and shared people with them.

The guns macheetti etc was OLF groups one among the 3 of them. One is Arusi led by the General, one is Wellega led by old OLF that is still in Asmara which the leader is suspected being Tigray from Eritrea but born and raised in Oromo.

Some of these groups support Abiy but want Oromo to be prepared for anything.

It is official. The era of despot Cabdi Illey is over in the Somali region.
After closed door deliberations, the DDSI party had elected Mr. Ahmed Shide as the new leader which officially ends the 11 year painful rule of Illey.
This selection will pave Mr. Shide as the new president of the region very soon. Also, the Liyu police has been disbanded as the security force of the Somali region. For the last few days the Liyu have been looting and pillaging communities while abandoning their positions.
Also, members of Illey family are been investigated by the authorities for the theft of millions of dollars.
It is an end of a painful chapters for a lot of Somalia. A very small group of blood thirsty group,  created and organised by the Tplf and Cabdi Illey have been overthrow thanks to the Oromo uprising. While many Somali including my self were looking to preserve the old order for the sake order and continuity, millions of Somalia want the total demise and the removal of the tyrants who oppressed them for so long. Just like the Oromo celebrated the demise of the Tplf order, for the millions of Somalis the end of Illey and his henchmen is a great relief and a new era of freedom.

There were some security concern about the disbanding of the Liyu police and the threat of anarchy and outlaws in the countryside, yet for most people, their disbanding was a relief. Analysts believe that the Liyu is too criminal or murderous to be a force that might fight for independence or even tribal reasons. They were trained to kill and abuse Somali and will not be needed in a land where people are seeking justice and freedom.
It is mind boggling how a small ruthless group had managed to oppress and control millions of Somalia for so long. They acted like there is no one else but themselves.
Now, Illey and his supporters must accept the new order and collaborae for the peace and development of all Somali. He and Tplf wanted to finish off the Somali and createa long  civil war between the Somali and Oromo. There were a lot of victims, but we hope the worst to be over. He gambled to the lives of thousands of Somali to save the Tplf order. After he lost the gamble, he continued to the destructive route until it is too late.

      galbeedi,
Why didn't you bring the most important news for you, the oil well to be drilled announced by Abiy?
Why this go around to bring civil war among Somalis? What do you gain?
Why is the area where the pipeline to pass more useful to you than the area where the prospective well is?

Why cover with Iley why not say the main motivation for you the trade route?
