    What does Puntland need for Hassan? If anything he needs her to have legitimacy. Anything agreed or done without Puntland approval will never work and will end in failure. Puntland has a responsibility to safeguard the country's unity and agreed federal system, and will not leave it for the anarchists and crazy secessionists to dismantle the nation. So, that is why time to time the mother of federalism need to discipline her misbehaving children to teach them a lesson. Nothing more nothing less.

    During Tukaraq war, it was well documented the frontline did not move one bit and no side had upper hand to dislodge others. In the end UN and international communities intervene and negotiated a ceasefire.

    Allaha unaaxariisto dadka masaakiinta ah oo meesha ku dhintay. If mudaharaad don't stop things will dramatically change. There is already war drums going on in Garowe and Buhodle. 
     

    Today angry demonstrators stormed Ahmed Karaash's house in Garowe. But real turn around that will change status quo is if SSC militia in Lasanod switch sides. There is a report one of the militia leaders have already moved his men outside Lasanod.

    I know Samafal is a good man judging by his writings here, but on this subject, he is covering for an evil family called " Reer Geelle Batal" who are morally corrupt by any means.

    Folks, this is not a normal family and this is not a regular wedding. It is the union of gangs and mafia. I might even add it is illegal marriage according to Sheikh C/raxman Bashir who was not only a knowledgeable Sheikh but also served as a judge in Djibouti courts.

    Here is how it all started: In 2011, Omar Geelle decided to change the constitution limiting the presidential terms of two consecutive six years. The opposition which was well organized at the time begun huge demonstration where people were killed and many arrested while the leader of the main opposition Dahir Ahmed Farah exiled to France earlier. The opposition boycotted the election, but the agitation and the demonstrations continued.

    In order to calm the opposition and especially the clan of the opposition leader Mr. DAF, he decided to recruit a young technocrat who was the cousin of the opposition leader. He was elevated quickly from a junior minister to the minister of health and then Gelle proposed to make him his son in law. Also Omar Geelle has signaled to the opposition clans that Dr, Jamac Cilmi will be his heir apparent, the next president of Djibouti. He even assembled the opposition clan elders and told them about his plans.

    In the meantime, Geelle begun to dismantle the opposition and divide them through bribes, clan lines and jailing the rest. By 2015 he consolidated power.

    Dr. Jamac started to organize and prepare for the next election to replace Geelle and begun a coalition. The Geelle inner family circle objected the future transfer of power and decided instead to keep the power among the children of Omar Geelle. Then a gossip started saying the Dr. Jamac had an affair with another woman, and through the Djbiouti intelligence the gossip spread within the public quickly. Yet, both Jamac and his wife Haybado rejected the gossip and stayed together.

    The mother in law of Dr. Jamac demanded divorce but he rejected. Then one night Geelle called the minister to the palace alongside general Sakariye, the army chief and the intelligence boss and a government judge. When the poor fellow showed up Geelle demanded Jamac to pronounce the divorce or else. He refused , but was threatened and eventually forced to divorce. After few weeks he was fired as a minister.

    Now, there won't be any power transfer or even the chance of outsiders coming to power. Geelle and his wife are preparing one of their sons or dauthers to take power. 

    The drama didn't stop there. While Geelle had dissolved a legitimate marriage of family, he welcomed another one initiated in a Paris night club. An Ivorian night club bouncer called Tommy Tayaro became the boy friend of the dauther of Omar Geelle. After while she brought him and  married her in Djibouti. Tommy is a Catholic by faith and Geelle blessed this marriage. The daily gossip in Djibouti about Tommy making erotic movies about Djibouti women and his other adventures are not only the tales in Djibouti but in west Africa and Ivory coast. If you just open Djibouti Facebook sites they are full of his globetrotting and womanizing escapades. Reports of the drug consumption is also on front pages just few weeks. Yet Geele does nothing. So, Mr. Samafal when Dhagaxtuur talks about the illegal ( Wuu Fuulay) he has basic Sharia foundation in terms of the marriage between Tommy and Faaduno Geelle.  Dissolving a legal marriage and welcoming an illegal one also isn't new in this family, it began more than 40 years ago, but will leave it there now.

    Just like the Hollywood celecberties who flow different rules, this family isn't not only strange to the average Somali and Djibouti families who are people with great Somali traditional and cultural ties. 

    Besides , being a gangster with high end cars and flushing jewelry doesn't make one honorable.  In southern Italy their is a silent code among the mafia and the public called Omerta. No one will speak if they witness a crime. Some of us, who live in the great white north of Canada will certainly speak and say how the emperor has no clothes.

    Another illegal action is the former warlord Muuse Biixi showing up and claiming to be the maternal uncle while her own family is sitting there. The ugly Biixi is trying to borrow a page from Geele and rule 14 years or more but that won't happen in Somaliland.

    Omar Geelle said, " Hassan Sheeikh Buuro iyo Darbiyo waa weyn ayuu jebiyey". Folks, this is nothing but a transaction and  the whole sale of " Somali Maandeeq".

    I would conclude that " There is no honor among thieves".

Dhagaxtuur has asserted that this daughter of IOG " Awalba Jareerbaa fuulijirtay"!!!! In islamic court of law this fella would bring four witnesses that have witnessed the action of "Zina" taking place in his case many times or he will get 80 lashes.

    It is going to be a given that Bosaso will lose businesses, specially the Mudug businesses who had to track their goods on longer distances. Garacad may also win some businesses from Mogadishu Port specialy from GalMudug. However, this depends on how price and politics. 

    With regards to Ethiopia, this is a far fetched dream. Livestock from Somali Region go to Berbera Port, not because it is closer, but because the market exists. Unless Garacad businesses compete on the market with the deep pocketed Hargeisa & Burco traders, there is little chance they will have any dent on this trade. 

    The other interesting aspect to this is how Garowe will react to a further eroding of its state coffers. We know from the Financial Reports  the income from Bosaso Port has been declining for the last number of years.  So it will be interesting how Garowe authority reacts to Bosaso income diminishing even further and having to share port fees in Garacad with private investors. 

     

    It is not about one port taking another's, it is about increasing capacity. Bosaso port was at some point in time supplying as far as Burco and was port of choice for most of the Somali traders and business people. But since then Somali economy has became larger and it is needed a port that can handle many ships at same time to unload cargo as soon as possible so as to increase ship's turnaround time. Currently ships wait longer to unload because the port can only handle one large ship at a time. 
     

    Also Ethipia's economy is growing 5% to 10% and would need more ports as the demand increases. Garacad would supply via Wardheer corridor which if you listened to Abtigiis yesterday there are big infrastructure development going on there including two high ways that would link them to Tuurdubi, the dry port terminal between Somali state and Puntland.  So therefore Garacad would complement Bosaso and not take anything away from it.

    The newer Container Terminal port can accommodate Mother container Ships with upto 18m draft.

    Garacad depth with the current two berths are 12m, deeper than both Bebera and Mogadishu that is before any dredging as it is naturally in deeper waters. The remaining two berths under construction  are designed to handle big oil tankers with up to 17m depth.

    Berbera Port before DP World investment was a first generation port facility. The same goes for Mogadishu Port, Kismayo etc.   

    Both Doooraale and new Berbera Container Terminal are what industry call, 3rd generation ports. 4th Generation ports are Jebel Ali, Rotterdam and Singapore which have semi-automation.

    Berbera Port will soon be joining 4th Generation ports with the newly upgraded semi-automation facility which will be opening soon. The zebra-crossing look-alike section is where containers from regional-feeders will be handled by automated robots - almost next-to-zero human involvement. Only when the STS crane is loading off or on to ship a human will be involved.
