I was reading the Kenya Nation newspaper's online version and one thing caught my eye, all the Somali people cited carried the name: ABDI, what explains the extraordinary popularity of this name among Somalis ? I'm not even talking about Abdi with a suffix such Abdi-khaliq, Abdishakur, Abdirizaq, etc but just straight up Abdi without any other name at the end. Somalis are the only Muslim community that use this weird name too. I cringe when I hear our people call each other Abdi. Somali N word perhaps I will be adding examples as I come across them.

Abdi is everywhere. Sadly, it is not a name you want to carry crossing international borders. The chances of you having the same name as a filthy ISIS fanboy is very high. I know few dudes who always get pulled into the darkroom for further questioning when travelling.

This is a serious matter. But not as serious as the uproar that engulfed social media when Dabcasar was detained in Hargeisa. It just shows the misplaced priority of Maryoolay.

Muse Bihi is a very clever man. This is a brilliant foreign policy campaign which costs next to nothing.

Holac, what do you suggest ? Change our names ? I myself carry an Abdi prefixed name and to be honest I hate it.

Che No cabiid would be way too flagrant lol I would swing on someone for using it, hahaha Cabdi = slave of hebel cabiid = slaves, waa wadarta cabdi, at least in classical Arabic. I have come across Pakistanis named Abeed The worst case of mis-naming involved a Pakistani who worked in the Gulf who when prompted for his name replied Zub Akbar

Thank you all. In the age of George Soros, what was done in the Balkans, Ukraine, Arab Spring is being modified and used everywhere. Very ingeneous and creative in deed. maakhiri1, Is it big FAIL? Some things are created for moments life span and ones the wind blows, who cares, it will be forgotten. I think some Arab might have fallen for it and gifted millions already. Wouldn't that be geat success? These gulf states are now so desperate for any noise, they will fall for anything.

Maansha Allah Safz. Truly heartwarming to see you happy and enjoying married life. Good choice in wedding style and music by the way. Other than that, Life's Good Saf. Enjoy the short time in beautiful Hargeisa because when you come back, it'll be back to usual busy life.

^^ Beautiful. Congrats again. You did well opting for that beautiful traditional wedding in Hargeisa. Planning a traditional Somali wedding takes much more time and effort than throwing run-of-the-mill Western wedding.
