MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) –
Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak announced his final act before leaving office — creating a “grand pedestrian walkway” named after an influential Somali immigrant to connect the West Bank. “The West Bank, which is our Ellis Island, became an island separated from the rest of the city,” Rybak said. “What we will do now is: We will be reconnecting that island with a grand pedestrian walkway.” The walkway, which will cross Interstate 35W will be called Samatar Crossing, named after Hussein Samatar, the first Somali-American elected to public office in Minnesota.
